Making a decision to belittle your spouse is likely one of the worst decisions in a marriage.

If your intent is to change behavior for the better then there are much better ways to do so.

Historic Disrespect

If there is historically deep disrespect for your spouse, belittlement is passive aggressive and breeds bitterness which is unresolved anger.

Both a desire to change behavior or expressing un-Christlike anger could be going on.

God’s Viewpoint

We should not harbor anger but release it to Him. Ephesians 4:31-32 says, “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you. Instead be kind and compassionate toward each other.”

1 Peter 5:7 reminds us to “Cast your anxiety [and anger] onto Him who cares for you.”

These verses and Anger Tools at hand can make a dramatic change in communication.
