Is temptation sin?
My thanks to Rev. Scott Jones and the other wise people (wiser than me) who attend the Tuesday morning Bible study. In the Gospels there is the story of satan (no capital ’s’ intended) tempting Jesus The Christ. The Bible states that Jesus did not commit any sins (1 Peter 2:22). But, was he tempted to turn a stone into a loaf of bread? As humans, we have a built-in moral compass that tells us when we are about to think a sinful thought. Sometimes our possible decision just doesn’t seem right. (Romans 1:20) This is temptation. Jesus, in His prayer said: Lead us not into temptation. Jesus would not have said that if he wasn’t warning us that temptation is indeed sin. So what is the life lesson? Do not put yourself in any situation where you would even be tempted. Jesus had no intention of being tempted to turn a stone into a loaf of bread. ‘Into temptation’ in the Lord’s Prayer are the operative words. He simply did not live in satan’s neighborhood. That needs to be our state of mind.
