Jerk definition: an obnoxious person (male or female). In Matthew 5:44 Jesus does not give us a choice. He commands it: Not only forgive your enemies but pray FOR them. Is it for the jerk or us? It’s for us, of course (and some for the jerk). Jesus already loves the jerk regardless of what he or she does to us. We don’t have to have a relationship with the jerk. What’s in it for us? Relief from stress. It takes a lot of stress to really hate someone. And then, there is God working behind our dashboard of life rearranging circumstances on our behalf. Can I prove it? No. Just default to: If Jesus says to do it, do it. He will take care of the rest.
