FAQ

Do you offer phone or video sessions?

Yes. Video technology is improving every day, and the process is nearly like being in the same room.

Most video clients use their phones, but laptops and tablets work just fine. If you’re interested in phone or video sessions, just let me know. We’ll discuss further what that could look like.

What are your hours?

I usually work afternoons and evenings, but I have a couple of morning appointments on Friday and Saturday.

I can also be flexible for unusual situations.

Do you do free consultations?
Absolutely. 20 minutes on the phone when you call. But if you have all the information you need, we can do less than 20 minutes. You’re at my website now, so roam around. There’s lots of information about me right here.
I’ve never done this before how do I set up a session?

Call, text, or email. You might get my voicemail, so please leave a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

If you leave a message after 9 pm, I probably will not call – because I don’t want to wake up the baby.

How long are the sessions?

Sessions are 45 minutes. That’s just enough time to get through most of what we need to do.

I can also schedule a double (if scheduled out far enough). That would be a 90-minute appointment straight through.

How much do you charge?

I have a sliding scale which I can discuss over the phone. I return calls between sessions, mornings, and weekends.

Do you take insurance?
I am not with an insurance panel – I am out-of-network. However, I will give you a statement with all the medical codes that you can turn into your insurance company for your reimbursement.
How many appointments will I/we need to get better?

You’ll know the answer when you can turn the corner and use what you’ve learned every day. We will probably need between 6 and 12 sessions.

Some long-term clients see me every three months for ‘maintenance.’

What is your cancellation policy?

Please contact me 48 hours in advance by phone, text, or email. Why 48 and not 24? I’m not like a medical doctor’s office where I see six or more patients in an hour. It takes more time to cultivate clients needing emotional help, sometimes a couple of days. Usually when there is a cancellation, even 48 hours out, the session may end up vacant.

What is your payment policy?

I like being paid – it’s easier to buy groceries with money 😊.

After that I take all the major credit cards, checks, PayPal, Venmo, and cash.

What age ranges do you work with?

I work with individuals age 13 and up. I believe the oldest client was 75 when he saw me. Nice guy.

Do you work with women? Men? Couples?
Yes, and families.
If I don’t believe in God, or I just never paid much attention to the whole religion thing, can I still make an appointment?
Yes. Most definitely.
What if I need to call or text you in between appointments?

I will try to answer your text or call as quickly as possible. I have been known to do immediate phone sessions if necessary.

I do not charge for questions or thoughts in between your scheduled appointment.

Do you ever take sides in couples counseling?

There really is no ‘side’ – just behavior that each other doesn’t like about the other. I try to work those out in a Christ-like way, so we will look for God’s viewpoint. If I take a side, it is on the side of the marriage.

Are you going to preach to me?

Not unless you need it, and I promise it won’t be over two hours…

Actually, I don’t preach; but when it is my turn to talk, I will. But I think you will find it very helpful to your unique situation.

Are you going to browbeat me with the Bible?
I wouldn’t call going through some fascinating verses that you may not have ever read or heard about… (deep breath for this run-on sentence) …that can turn your life around on a dime, browbeat-ing. Besides many of the answers to your prayers are right in the Bible.
Are you going to ask ‘whatsa matter with you??’”
Maybe.
Are you going to talk about the Cubs?
Probably… unless they’re in last place.
